E.ON has recently supported Energy Projects Plus through a grant from their Energy Action Fund. We have used this money to engage with the community.
We held a series of free community social coffee events in the Toxteth area where residents had access to free advice and information on keeping warm at home at an affordable cost. We created a space for members of the community to come together to get to know us and each other, discussing simple no-cost actions residents could do to reduce the costs of their energy bills. It was a great way to promote ways people can be energy efficient in their own homes and highlight the benefits of being energy conscious.
Residents that attended the event were given the chance to win an LED energy efficient light bulb in a raffle. LED light bulbs may cost more to buy initially, but over time the cost is recouped in energy savings and they have a much longer life span than regular light bulbs.
We have also been working very closely with the Alt Housing Cooperative on this project. The Alt Housing Cooperative takes pride in protecting its community’s environment, and residents work wonderfully together as a community to set up group events such as litter picking to help keep their surroundings clean, tidy and homely. We are working together with the group to gather information from residents, using questionnaires to find out about their individual energy costs. This information will enable us to provide advice and support on how they can slash prices on their energy bills.
