The School Waste Action Programme (SWAP) pilot project aims to reduce the volume of household waste sent to landfill through direct work with schools and indirect work with families. We want schools to rethink, reduce, reuse and recycle.
SWAP is managed by Energy Projects Plus in partnership with Merseyside-based charities Faiths4Change, Liverpool World Centre and Rotters Community Composting. Together, we make up a group known as the Eco Resource Network. The project is funded through the Merseyside Recycling Waste Authority Community Fund.
Working with up to 50 schools across Merseyside, SWAP offers quality support to engage the whole school community to reduce waste, recycle more and even make money for school funds.
SWAP offers 3 programmes, all of which provide hands on support to enable schools to reduce waste:
The Textile Challenge: a simple textile collection competition, involving an assembly and practical set up and support – a great way to engage families & boost school funds.
Sustainable Schools Workshop ‘Where teaching meets school business management’: Half day workshop aimed at Business Managers and teaching staff who are passionate about environmental education, and want to make a difference in their school. Wednesday 22nd January 2014, Liverpool.
School Waste Action Programme: a school waste audit, waste action plan & trial recycling pilot scheme complete with your own personal waste officer and in school workshops for all ages/key stages.
